The goal
TUN Foundation is raising funds to purchase land plots in Armenia, which are provided free of charge to families from Nagorno-Karabakh. This allows them to build their own new homes with the support of government programs or other charities. In addition, the land can be used for agricultural purposes.
Both the land and the house belong to the family. If state housing support is not enough to finish the house, the foundation looks for ways to help complete it.
Two ways we secure land
A. Land from partners
A partner organization provides the land. TUN takes care of the rest: we develop the selection criteria, select and verify families, plan how the land is divided and support each family through paperwork and construction. Plots are transferred to families either through TUN or directly by the partner, based on our recommendations.
B. The foundation’s own land
TUN buys land or receives it from donors, registers it, connects it to utilities and transfers it to families. Families take on simple commitments that keep the land for its purpose: building the family’s home.
Our long-term aim is scale: more sites, more plots and more families.
Land to live and to work
Many of the displaced families were part of the rural communities of Nagorno-Karabakh and were actively engaged in agriculture. With a plot of their own, they can build a home and also work the land.
In this way, the foundation stimulates potential business activity and a stable source of income for displaced families, facilitating their integration into the local community and economy, and contributing to the socio-economic development of Armenia.
How it works for a family
- Selection. The family applies and goes through an open selection process.
- Land. The family receives a plot free of charge as private property.
- Home. The family builds its house with state housing support. We help with documents, planning and construction questions.
- Support. If state support does not cover the whole house, the foundation looks for ways to help complete it.
How we select families
- Clear and open criteria. Families, donors and partners should know how decisions are made. The criteria may be refined over time, but they are written down and the process is open.
- Experience in agriculture. Priority goes to families who were previously engaged in agriculture and plan to continue. With a plot of land, they can earn a living and build their own homes.
- Families ready to build a new life. We support families who are ready to rebuild their lives through their own effort. We give them a foundation and a place to do it; the rest they build themselves.
- A balanced community. We are not just handing out plots: we are helping a new community take root. Its balance and long-term stability matter as much as each individual family.
