Mikael Veklenko, founder
Mikael Veklenko was born in Rostov-on-Don, on 14 of May 1985 (then: USSR), in the Armenian-Russian family. His maternal grandparents were ethnic Armenians who emigrated from Vedi (Armenia) and Ispahan (Iran). He holds both Armenian and Russian citizenships.
Mikael first graduated from Don State Technical University in International Economic Relations and later completed a post-graduate program in Urban Studies at the University of Manchester (UK).
His career began with a decade-long immersion in the intricacies of urban development, shaping urban landscapes, and pioneering solutions for urban development, planning, and urban science across various towns, cities, and regions in different countries, such as China, Brazil, India, Poland, and Bulgaria.
He has been residing in Croatia since 2020 and is the CEO of MAVEK Design, founded in 2020.
He always cherished his Armenian background, but visiting Armenia for the first time in 2014, made him realize how deeply he is attached to his historical homeland:
“Exploring Armenia helped me to explore myself. In particular, my first visit to Armenia opened my eyes: I understood where I come from and to what culture I belong to.
Turns out, my mother passed the culture on to me, without even speaking Armenian.
I simply felt at home".
The 2nd war in Artsakh and the following displacement of ethnic Armenians couldn’t leave him unconcerned. He decided to take action and ended up forming the Foundation.
